Maggio 1948: il primo treno d'Italia a Monfalcone dopo la guerra
Poche ore dopo l'insediamento del primo Presidente della Repubblica, a Trieste, giungeva il primo treno d'Italia, dopo la fine della seconda guerra mondiale. Treno che passava chiaramente anche dalla stazione di Monfalcone, come testimonia un breve fermo immagine tratto dal prezioso video dell'archivio dell'Istituto Luce. Il video interessa l'i naugurazione della linea ferroviaria Venezia-Trieste. Fu un fatto storico di estrema importanza, un piccolo segnale di ritorno alla normalità in un Paese ridotto in macerie a causa della seconda guerra mondiale. Le ferrovie sono sempre state importanti nel nostro territorio, soprattutto grazie agli investimenti originari effettuati dall'Impero asburgico. Nel 1854 venne infatti aperta la linea da Trieste a Vienna attraverso il Semmering. Il progettista fu il veneziano Carlo Ghega, a cui a Trieste è dedicata una via in città, linea di 14 gallerie, una delle quali raggiungeva la lunghezza di ben 1431 m, con 16 viadotti e

RispondiEliminaOn another occasion, in 1954, several hundred members of the profascist Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI) party marched on the Allied Military Government (AMG) building. I was marching with them on the sidelines to report on what was happening. Just as the demonstrators reached the AMG building and were confronted by police armed only with clubs and shields, there was an explosion not 20 yards from me. One man in the crowd fell to the ground. He had been about to hurl a handgrenade at the police, but he had pulled the pin too soon and had blown off his own leg. (He was later elected to the Italian Parliament and thus escaped trial.)
